Canalys: Q1 global smartwatch shipments of 14.3 million in 2020, with Apple ranking first
The latest report from Canalys, a city survey agency, shows that despite the rampant new coronary pneumonia in the first quarter of 2020, global smart watch shipments increased by 12% year-on-year to 14.3 million.
From the manufacturer's ranking, Apple ranked first with a market share of 36.3% and shipped 5.2 million units; Huawei ranked second with 2.1 million units shipped, accounting for 14.9% of the market; and Samsung shipped 1.1 million units. The results ranked third, with a market share of 12.4%.
For Apple's performance, Canalys said that although Apple's shipments fell by 13% year-on-year, its smart watch platform is still the world's largest platform, and is growing steadily. WatchOS gained 4 million new active users during the quarter, bringing the total number of installers to an estimated 70 million. In the next three months, the cumulative shipments of Watch will reach 100 million.
In addition, Canalys pointed out that in the first quarter of 2020, China's shipments of smart watches increased by 66%, which is equivalent to the shipments in North America. Research analyst Cynthia Chen said: "Before the Spring Festival, the supplier has completed a large number of orders for LTE, which is part of the nation's eSIM coverage, and has shipped 2.5 million cellular smart watches.
